As outlined in the SA2020 community vision, health and fitness is one of San Antonio's top priority areas. The Student Ambassador Program is an integral part of Mayor Julian Castro's and the Mayor's Fitness Council's efforts to create a healthier city. The mission of the Mayor's Fitness Council Student Ambassador Program is to involve San Antonio youth in Mayor Julián Castro's initiative to improve the health of San Antonio. Student ambassadors represent the Mayor's Fitness Council by promoting and encouraging healthy living at their campus and in their communities

In addition to the Student Ambassadors, all youth in Bexar County who are interested in joining the movement in improving the health of San Antonio are encouraged to join the Student Wellness Club. Students who participate will receive invitations to special health and fitness events as well as an electronic newsletter on health and fitness.
